چکیده

We show that solutions for the masses and mixings of the quarks and leptons based on a U (1)×Z 2 horizontal symmetry are possible. The seesaw mechanism is shown to work consistently in the presence of the discrete symmetry. The discrete symmetry results in the phenomenologically useful suppressions of elements of the Yukawa matrices. The quark and lepton masses, the CKM mixing angles, and the neutrino mixing angles are accomodated at the order of magnitude level.

Can a Flavor Symmetry Survive Until a Low Energy Scale?

It is pointed out that if we assume a flavor symmetry (including a discrete symmetry) in order to understand the observed quark and lepton masses and mixing matrices, the requirement of the symmetry leads to an unwelcome form of the CKM matrix which contradicts the observed one, even if we can obtain reasonable mass spectra for the upand down-quark sectors under the symmetry. The same situation...

Natural Neutrino Masses and Mixings from Warped Geometry

We demonstrate that flavor symmetries in warped geometry can provide a natural explanation for large mixing angles and economically explain the distinction between the quark and lepton flavor sectors. We show how to naturally generate Majorana neutrino masses assuming a gauged a U(1)B−L symmetry broken in the UV that generates seesaw masses of the right size. This model requires lepton minimal ...

We consider a model based on A4 ⋉ (Ze ×Zμ ×Zτ ) flavor symmetry for TriBimaximal lepton mixing with two scalar A4-triplets whose vacuum expectation values have the same alignment. Neutrino masses are generated through effective dimension five Weinberg operators. Charged leptons mass hierarchies are generated with an additional Froggatt-Nielsen U(1)F flavor symmetry under which right-handed lept...

Solving Flavor Puzzles with Quiver Gauge Theories

We consider a large class of models where the SU(5) gauge symmetry and a Froggatt-Nielsen (FN) Abelian flavor symmetry arise from a U(5)×U(5) quiver gauge theory. An intriguing feature of these models is a relation between the gauge representation and the horizontal charge, leading to a restricted set of possible FN charges. Requiring that quark masses are hierarchical, the lepton flavor struct...

Flavor Symmetry for Quarks and Leptons

Present data on neutrino masses and mixing favor the highly symmetric tribimaximal neutrino mixing matrix which suggests an underlying flavor symmetry. A systematic study of non-abelian finite groups of order g ≤ 31 reveals that tribimaximal mixing can be derived not only from the well known tetrahedral flavor symmetry T ≡ A4, but also by using the binary tetrahedral symmetry SL2(F3) which does...
